Many Joomla users ignore that starting with the version 1.5 there is an integrated SEF support delivered with the standard Joomla installation.
The URLs displayed on your Joomla site usually look like this
http://www.yoursite.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=19&Itemid=27
This is because the Joomla native SEF functionality is not enabled. If you enable Joomla the standard Joomla SEF, your site URLs will look like
http://www.yoursite.com/content/view/1/2/
which is much better and helps to get higher ranking on search engines.
In order to optimize your Joomla URLs even better, you may consider to install one of the Joomla SEF extensions.
